Our Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta hotel review was the setting of my sisters destination wedding.
It’s not a place we researched or knew that much about, especially in regards to taking kids along. However, we were bridesmaid and flower girl, so we were off to Mexico!
Any doubts or concerns about going to Mexico with such young children soon dissipated when we arrived at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta.
First Impressions Hyatt Ziva in Puerto Vallarta
At the entrance to the hotel our taxi was stopped at the gate and we were signed in.
The hotel is very conscious of who is arriving and leaving the premises on a daily basis. The Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta is a well maintained and conscientious resort.
As we got out the taxi there were numerous staff helping with our bags, the car seats and the pushchair we had somehow crammed into the boot.
Before I even had time to take in my surroundings our stuff was organised and stacked on a luggage cart awaiting their next destination! Service at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta is second to none!
We checked in with very friendly staff that spoke excellent English and made us feel very welcome. We were also offered upgrades at a decent rate.
The Rooms at the Hyatt Ziva – Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta hotel review
We stayed in a standard double room in the main tower overlooking the the beach and the bay on the 19th floor. The view was incredible!
Our room had two double beds and we also requested a baby cot. Even with all this the room was spacious and airy. Space isn’t always at a premium in hotel rooms and it is such a huge plus when travelling with children.
The bathroom was spacious with a separate toilet and shower. It included amenities such as a hairdryer and complimentary soaps, shampoos and lotions.
The room was also beautifully furnished and decorated to compliment the outstanding scenery the hotel is nestled into.
The bride and groom upgraded to a swim up room, which opened out on to a terrace with direct access to a pool! What a lovely way to spend your wedding week!
Services – Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta hotel review
The floors of the rooms are tiled, which is not particularly practical for a nine month old, so I requested additional rugs to put along the wall, which I promptly received.
I also asked for a high chair to be brought up to the room so I could feed the baby and I also received this with no issue.
It is worth bearing in mind that the hotel does not have any baby food pouches or food specific to weaning babies. This didn’t cause us any problems as I had brought some food of my own for ease.
Room service was available 24 hours a day for food only and the minibar was stocked daily.
Food and Restaurants – Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta hotel review
There are five amazing restaurants on site where you can can sample a range culinary delights. There is a rodizio style grill at BlaZe; southern Asian style cuisine at PureZa; luxurious traditional Italian dishes in MelanZane; a traditional Mexican experience at Casa Grande and a gourmet buffet at VivaZ Buffet.
PureZa was by far our favourite.
It had fantastic views out on to the ocean and was open for breakfast and dinner.
Since we have young children we were always up early and we were always the first to breakfast at PurZa, which opened at 7am. We arrived while the morning was warm and dark and always nabbed the best table!
We then sat in the half light waiting patiently for the sun and the resort to wake up. Breakfast soon became our most favourite part of the day for these moments alone!
With an uninterrupted view we watched sea birds hunt in the water and make tracks in the sand and the sky turn from black to hues of grey and blue till finally the world emerge in full technicolour once again.
We even watched a stingray jump clear out of the water while the rest of the world was still asleep! Incredible!
That’s all on top of the amazing a la carte breakfast menu!
Pool and the Beach
The Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta has its own private beach, meaning the only people on it are people staying at the resort.
The sea can be a little rough at times so it’s not particularly good for small children, but it’s as warm as bath water!
There are more than enough pools to keep everyone occupied at the hotel including one to a swim-up bar and one that plays music, gives aqua aerobics classes and even has foam parties! Can you guess which one we spent the most time in?
All the pools look out across the beach so you can watch the big waves roll in, even if you can’t be out in them.
You can cheer on the volleyball tournaments and watch the kids building sandcastles on the beach mere meters in front of you, all the while bobbing up and down on your rubber ring waiting for the waiter to bring you your Pina Colada directly to the pool.
For a mum of two, that’s somewhat close to paradise.
Turtles at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta
You must be sure to visit the turtle nursery at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta where you can watch baby turtles hatching!
It is a protected programme that runs from the Hyatt Ziva by a brilliant zoologist called Miguel. It is the most incredible thing to show your children!
The turtles hatch in the morning and by the evening you can watch them being released into the ocean!
Destinations Weddings at the Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta
The main reason we were at this incredible little corner of the planet was because my sister was getting married.
My brother-in-law summed up this experience by saying:
“The Hyatt Ziva truly lived up to their reputation. From the moment we walked in we realised that we had made the right decision.
“The grounds are beautifully situated in a private cove just outside of Puerto Vallarta. Our wedding coordinator, Valentina, was amazing! She had everything under control for us and tried to make all of our wishes for the day come true.
“Our wedding photographer, Eder Acevedo, was exactly the photographer we were looking for.
“He was relaxed and professional. He had some great ideas for our first look photos around Puerto Vallarta and was willing to incorporate our vision as well. I would highly recommend him!”
Would there be a next time?
I’m not sure if the Hyatt company can top this experience!
As a family of four that included two very small children, we had such an incredibly fantastic experience!
I think we could be persuaded to go again…
