Visit Ibiza with kids and you won’t be disappointed. Ibiza makes a great holiday destination when travelling with kids – especially if you travel in the low season. There are fewer crowds (even in the busiest of places), the clubs are shut and the weather is still good. Here are our must-sees when you visit Ibiza with kids!

1. San Antonio – visit Ibiza with kids

San Antonio is home to some of Ibiza’s best known and liveliest nightclubs such as: Cafe Del Mar, Es Paradis and Eden. However, in the low season it becomes something of a tranquil haven for families and people looking to enjoy the last of the summer sunshine, smaller crowds and a bargain holiday.

We based ourselves in San Antonio for our weeks holiday in Ibiza with kids and we thought we got it just right.

San Antonio had enough to keep us busy if we wanted to spend a day locally, it has a major bus station in town with access to the main parts of the island and it has a couple of good beaches to choose from.

Whilst visiting San Antonio make sure you take a wander around the harbour and enjoy the abundance of marine life that congregates at the edges. Stop and have a coffee and a cake in one of the many bars and restaurants along the harbour and then take a walk into San Antonio de Portmany and have a look around the shops and old town.

You can even walk right around the edge of San Antonio till you reach the San Antonio Sunset Strip – billed to be the best place to watch those famous Ibizan sunsets.

Have a drink in Cafe Del Mar, if it’s still open during the day, and then keep going all the way up to Aquarium Cap Blanc. The views are stunning as you follow the coastal path alongside some of Ibiza’s beautiful coastline.

San Antonio becomes the perfect place to enjoy the beach, take long walks around the coast and to use as a base to explore the rest of the island.

2. Dalt Vila – visit Ibiza with kids

Dalt Vila translates to ‘High Town’ and cradles over 2500 years of history within its cobbled streets, fortified walls and port area. The UNESCO World Heritage site, which includes Castell d’Eivissa is a definite high point of any trip to Ibiza with kids.

The whole area has become an outdoor museum and is completely free to enter and wander around. There are three ‘official’ routes you can follow around the town, however, we spent the day creating our own route and we thoroughly enjoyed this freedom.

The fort sits on top of a small mountain that overlooks the coast, so you will need to navigate a little bit of uphill walking and a few stone steps. We did this easily enough with a buggy and two small children, although the stones can be a little slippy in the rain.

There are lots of places to stop and take in some amazing views and some lovely bars and restaurants to enjoy a quick tapas lunch or typically Spanish snack.

To keep the kids on the move we decided to take our own packed lunch and we found lots of opportunities to sit and enjoy the best views around the fort.

It’s easy to pick up a little Ibizan souvenir in the cute and colourful shops and enjoy a stroll down the picturesque whitewashed residential streets of Dalt Vila.

To finish off the visit, amble around the port and have a good nosey at all the boats and yachts!

3. Hippy Market at Es Caná

The Hippy Market in Es Caná dates back to the 1960s when artists came to the island to enjoy its freedom of expression, bohemian lifestyle and good weather.

The Hippy Market in Es Caná sells handmade clothing, jewellery and an assortment of other weird and wonderful products. There are other Hippy Markets around the island but this one is still open til about late October.

In the centre of the market there is a wonderful outside food area selling burgers, sangria and other foods. A great opportunity to indulge in a sweet or savoury snack to compliment your day shopping.

It’s pretty simple to get the bus to Es Caná. In the high season the buses run direct, however, if you visit in the low season you might find you’ll need to change, but this isn’t always the case. If in doubt, ask the bus driver.

If you have hired a car there is plenty of parking around the Hippy Market, usually priced at around €4 for the day.

Es Caná

Es Caná is a small resort on the east side of the island. There’s a beautiful white sandy beach and lots of shops, bars and restaurants in the middle of town to keep you busy when visiting Ibiza with kids.

The walk along to the Hippy Market from the bus stop in the middle of town follows the coast. This means there are ample opportunities to enjoy a good view of the sea.

Also, the road on both sides are lined with trinket and souvenir shops alongside bars and restaurants, meaning to walk is quite entertaining too!

Beach at Caló des Gat – visit Ibiza with kids

If you fancy a wander to the beach after a visit to the Hippy Market you can take a quick walk to Caló des Gat. Here you will find a little rocky bay with easy access into the water.

The bay is also the location of Camping La Playa Ibiza, so in the summer there might be a few people about.

If it is a little crowded, take a walk along the coast to Playa Cala Martina where you will find a bigger sandy beach, plus a couple of bars and restaurants.

4. Cala Bassa Beach

Cala Bassa is a popular and well known beach not far from San Antonio. It is here you will find an expansive white sand beach, turquoise waters, rocky terrain and a wooded area filled with ancient Sabina trees to explore.

Getting the bus to Cala Bassa from San Antonio is quick and easy and it runs every hour back into town. You can also get to Cala Bassa by boat from San Antonio and there is a large car park if you have a car.

It is also the home to Cala Bassa Beach Club. Within the club there are four different restaurants to choose from if you decide to have a spot of lunch. The prices aren’t cheap and we stuck to a good old fashioned picnic, which always serves us well with the kids. However, as we watched people receive their lunches and jugs of Sangria on freshly laid tables just in front of their sun lounger, we did experience a slight pang of jealousy.

It’s the perfect place to explore for a day whilst visiting Ibiza with kids.

5. Aquarium Cap Blanc – visit Ibiza with kids

Aquarium Cap Blanc is an old smuggler’s cave that has been transformed into a natural aquarium where fish, octopus and stingrays can be found living in their natural habitat.

In the low season the aquarium is open for a much shorter day and in the winter it is only open on Saturdays. It may also shut in bad weather so it’s worth checking it’s open before you go along.

If you choose to walk from San Antonio there are some great coastal views and cliff top walks. If you have a buggy I would suggest taking the road route. However, if you are all on foot, the cliffs are the way to go!
