The Very Best of Newquay Cornwall with Kids

Newquay is synonymous with Cornwall as Cornwall is with Newquay. You can’t take a trip to Cornwall without visiting this surfers paradise on the north Cornish coastline. Here are our 4 of the very best bits you must see in Newquay Cornwall with kids!

Newquay Harbour – Beautiful stop in Newquay Cornwall with Kids

Do not visit Newquay Town without visiting Newquay Harbour! It is one of the most gorgeous spots in the area.

The harbour itself is tucked away down a steep hill on the North West side of town. Stand at the top of S Quay Hill and take in gorgeous views of the harbour to your left, Towan Beach to your right, and the wild Atlantic in front of you. It really is quite stunning.

Once down in the harbour you can take a little walk around the harbour walls, explore in and around the fishing boats or spend some time on the beach and even take a little dip in the water! (If the weather permits!)

This tiny piece of Newquay’s coastline was one of my favourites by far. Secluded, pretty and totally accessible with kids.

Fistral Beach – Surfers Paradise Newquay Cornwall with kids

Fistral beach is on the opposite side of the headland to Newquay Town. It is an impressive stretch of sandy beach measuring just under a kilometre long. It is also home to some of the best surfing in Newquay!

Surf schools run on Fistral beach throughout a good portion of the year if you wanted to get in amongst the waves. Alternatively, you can park up the car and take a stroll along the water’s edge and watch as someone else does it. Both just as enjoyable!

The car park is large, but in the summer months I can see it filling up quickly. It is also a pay and display so be prepared to get your pennies ready.

There are also numerous places to eat near the car park that look over the surfers and the waves in case you wanted to make more of an event of your visit.

Towan Head when in Newquay with Kids

Towan Head sits directly in the middle of Fistral Beach and Newquay Town on the northern tip.

Park the car (pay and display) and take a walk up the small hill to a lookout spot and watch waves roll into Fistral Beach. You can also watch all forms of weather roll in off the Atlantic. Brace yourself for some windy conditions!

If the weather is good there is also the opportunity to explore the rocky headland on the other side of the lookout. Whatever you decide to do you can’t complain about the views.

There are also some lovely little coves to explore near the car park. It’s a great place to spend some more time on the sand.

Newquay Town – Cool and Kooky

Newquay is one of the bigger coastal towns in Cornwall and it caters for everyone. I have been as a child, a young adult and as a mother. Each time I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time here.

The town offers lots of shopping, bakeries, boutiques and places to eat out that range from upmarket bistros to child friendly eateries. You can visit the Blue Reef Aquarium, grab a Pasty and a coffee or amble around the many surf shops on offer. Newquay can keep you all busy.

You can also spend some time on Towan Beach. High tide is another great opportunity to watch the surfers and at low tide you can walk right out past The Island and rocks.
